Catherine Munn week 6

10 images for different times of day

  1. The fruit picture has a very nice contrast and is roughly asymmetrical in content. The bus stop picture doesn't convey rule of thirds or lines to me and the point of focus that is clearest (backpack) is the darkest and doesn't catch the eye.

  2. The only thing that really stood out to me was that the sky in the picture at the hub is overexposed and I would tone it down a bit.

  3. Some of these photos don't make sense to me because they don't feel intentional; such as, the photo of the dirt and tree stump. Also the bus stop picture could be stronger if he was making eye contact with us, because right now it feels random and impersonal. Overall you have nice contrast though.

  4. The photo of the succulents is really interesting. I think the highlights on the leaves could have been pushed further to make it stronger. The picture of the grass is a little dark and could benefit from a higher contrast.

  5. The lighter part in the 5th picture looks a bit overexposed to me although I like the idea of experimenting with shadows and light. Also the last photo is too casual, maybe let your model change a pose, now it looks like he is not aware of you are taking a picture of him. I think the fourth photo is the strongest photo this week with its sharpness and strong contrast.

  6. Although your 9th photo has great texture and and interesting angle it needs more contrast because the texture of the tree and the grass kinda blend together.

  7. I can't decide whether or not the last image feels left-heavy to me, because the figure is also moving leftwards (I think if he had his back to us/facing the other way the image would have a sort of character or mood along with being a bit more balanced). The sun ray from above is a cool effect, though I don't think the image necessarily needed it.

The first four images feel the strongest to me, and I like how in the fifth you used light instead of blurring to orient the viewer's attention. I agree with Jenna about images 7 and 9.

  8. The fifth image is so great because you show a strong contrast of brightness and darkness. The third one needs more contrast and the subject matter of the last one is not interesting.

  9. I agree with Jenna, that some of your photos don't seem intentional. I really appreciate the you tried to use a unique perspective with some of your photos, but I think that it would have been cool to have seen you experiment with asymmetry a little bit more with those unique perspectives. The half dark/half light picture throws me off. I see that you tried to play with the sunlight, but I don't think you were successful in capturing an interesting photo with the sunlight. I see that you kept in mind the rule of thirds when shooting.

  10. Your first photo is my favorite! It tells a narrative while still using good composition and lighting. I think the only image that isn't very strong is the 9th one, it's a bit uninteresting compared to the others.
