Samara Bie - Week 12

(i've been experimenting with the Chinese culture theme for my final project and went to some Chinese restaurants for a start this week. Tell me what you guys think about these pictures!)

  1. In terms of your theme and compostion, the most successful image is the blue moon sign with the two Chinese decorations hung on it. It is symmetric from the fire alarm lights to how the decorations are hung at opposite sides. I like the juxtaposition between the sign of a famous american beer and the Chinese decoration.

  2. I love where this is going with the food! Especially the image with the Blue Moon sign - I feel like that sums up your story idea very well. I would try photographing it again, if you could, with brighter lighting to make it a stronger image.

  3. I love that you are really working with editing! The composition of the last image is very interesting to me - I love that the Chinese divider is hiding the Coke machine (there's so many metaphors in this photo). I also love the pattern in the second to last photo. I think you're on the right track by juxtaposing Chinese culture and American culture in your photos. However, I think the 1st, 3rd and 7th photos are the least interesting photos - they're nice compositions, but I think they're lacking an interesting quality like the rest of your photos. Can't wait to see what else you do!

  4. Everyone really nailed the comments for your photos. They are really powerful compositions! I would just pay attention to having clean, non-distracting elements in your composition. But you're on the right track with a really awesome narrative. Keep gathering photos that juxtapose the 2 cultures.

  5. I like the fork and chopsticks image, though the fork and chopsticks could be a little better composed. Make the fork and chopsticks a real focus. I do like the juxtapostions apparent in your pictures and I would have you bring props in to really extenuate the theme. As well as doing the As made in China sticker idea.

  6. I really appreciated how you incorporated the 2 cultures in the 8th and 10th photos. Aside from that you're on the right track with your photos. It may also help you to include Chinese people in your photos.

  7. Wow, I think several of these show your theme really well! The first one with the bucket(?) I feel like you could push more if you could see a bit more of the outside and how it's clearly in FL/America. I think restaurants offer you a lot of subject matter for you to work with.
