Week 12 Photos Davis Foster

Week 12 Top 10 photos

So I emailed Kashif and he didn't get back to me on my ideas so I just went with a newish theme of Floridian iconography being toxic and how Floridian stereotypes are harmful in a way. Ideally I would want to do five photos from a series similar to this so that I can show a sort of progression.  None are edited.

  1. Maybe instead of a shower drain, you can try to use an outdoor drain, but still incorporate the oranges. The angles in the second and third images are very interesting, but I personally had to really look at it to tell what it was. I also really like how the last photo really looks "dirty", and would love to see more like this. I am really interested in where you are going to take this idea, and how you are going to incorporate more of the stereotypes. I think the 7th orange could've been taken farther sexually, perhaps by making the model's fingers into a V. Overall, I can't wait to see how you create a story!

  2. I think you could do a lot with this idea! I would also try to use another person's hands for the pictures instead of your own. I don't know if that would necessarily make them better, but it might be easier to focus on the composition and framing of your photos if you weren't multi-tasking.

  3. The above comments make some really good points. I had to stare at these for awhile to get what you were trying to say. I feel like they'd be stronger if the black paint or what ever you used was thicker and darker and just overtook the fruit (kinda like angelica's black apple). This would really emphasize the notion of toxicity.

  4. I agree with what Jenna said about the paint and that it would be much stronger. I feel like you're on to something but it can be pushed further.

  6. I think you got a really interesting concept here and you have a really good start. However I would suggest you to focus more on the compositions and qualities (which I believe you can solve in your final project after editing)of these photos because now your attempt to tell stories with your photos is too obvious that you've forgotten to take pictures. Always remember that you are a photographer using your photos to tell stories, not a writer trying to illustrate your stories with photos.

  7. Careful using fruit--they have popular symbolic meanings of fertility and sometimes sensuality, and even sometimes represent vulvas. I'm not certain if the 7th one was meant to be sexual, but it definitely reads like someone getting fingered. I think this is an interesting idea that could use more pushing. Hmmm, maybe using dirt could help as well as photographing outside with natural lighting?
