Catherine Munn Week 12

Contact Sheets Week 12

TOP 10

Overall I'm unsatisfied with my images this week. The images taken with chalk were more for experimentation rather than the final project, but the second half of the batch I was trying to capture imperfections of the skin like rashes from shaving, or stretch marks, and progress further to bodily fluids on the skin. I wasn't able to capture what I wanted to though, and my camera was not working properly. So I think for next week I will try to rent out a camera so that I can get the small details that I want for my final project.

  1. I agree that the images with the chalk where the most succesful. I think that your idea of capturing imperfections in the skin can create really interesting imagery, specially the lines created by stretchmarks, which I would love to see how you would capture that.

  2. The photographer I did the phonebook on has some really great inspiration because he photographs women's body's with similar perspectives to what you do - I'll bring the book I have tomorrow! I really like your idea of capturing the imperfections of the skin - could you maybe try to have older models so that the imperfections are greater and could come across better when you photograph. I really like photographing the prickly hair on the legs - it's creepy but also very interesting. Maybe when you are editing, you can try to do the negatives and see how that looks! I agree that the images with the chalk are the most successful, and I think it's because it highlights and molds to the body, so maybe you can play around with techniques like this.

  3. I think you're being too hard on yourself because these photos are lovely. I get they may not be as detailed as you want, but they feel artistic, rather than the photos you see in a pamphlet at the dermatologist. Keep doing what you're doing, also keep in mind that photoshop can help enhance the marks that you want to emphasize.

  4. I agree with Jenna and I think that you were successful with what you aimed to capture. You're definitely on the right track and I encourage you to keep shooting and nailing down your concept.

  5. These photos are good! I do like the skin theme and I would encourage you to push that more and use a variety of different things, such as juice drizzle and maybe sun tan lotion.

  6. Your photos with the chalk came out really successful because the chalk somehow makes the texture of the skin more obvious and increase the contrast. And I also like your idea of capturing the imperfections of skin and I agree with you that when your subject matter is something such subtle like human skin, you have to capture some extreme details. Also, depicting imperfections of skin also take your concept to a deeper level--imperfections do not mean ugly/bad, they can be beautiful and stunning.

  7. Even if these didn't turn out as well as you wanted, you were still able to experiment and become more familiar with your subject. I definitely picked up on the skin imperfections theme and I feel like you know where you're going with this.
